You will also learn some helpful advice for foreign students in Ukraine.
Money and currency in Ukraine
Before we start talking about prices, we want to tell you about money in Ukraine. The national currency of Ukraine is the hryvnia (UAH). $ 1 = 28 hryvnia (price is not stable now).
The Ukrainian national currency collapsed vigorously several years ago. Despite this, it is a huge advantage for international students. You can now get more for the same amount in US dollars.
You cannot pay in dollars or other currencies. Only hryvnia is allowed. All foreign currency can be exchanged at banks, exchange offices, train stations and airports. This is not a problem. Bank branches are very common. We recommend not to use exchange offices at the airport. Best rate at bank branches.
Living
Almost all universities in Ukraine have their own dormitories. International students can live in it. You will live there with one or two people.
Some students prefer to rent an apartment. In some cases, if an apartment is rented out to a few people, it can be more profitable.
The cost of apartments is available at very reasonable rates for students. It depends on the city, size of the apartment and its location (center or suburb).
You can rent a one-room apartment for $ 200 USD away from the center. Or even in the middle of small towns. A 3-room apartment will cost you $ 300 and more. The cost of an apartment depends on the condition of repairing the apartment and the furniture. We strongly recommend students to determine the presence of furniture before renting an apartment. Most students live in the hostel and pay no more than $ 70 a month. Those who rent an apartment, usually no more than $ 150. It all depends on your needs.
Public Transport
Also an important item of expenses. Usually, if you live in a university home, it is often located near the metro and you do not need to use a bus to get to your university. However, if you still want to go to another part of the city, or have fun or travel around the country.
Buses and trains are also very cheap in Ukraine.
A round-trip ticket on local transport (buses, trams, subways, etc.) will cost you 0.75 USD – 1 USD.
Monthly subway tickets start from $ 20 to $ 50 (there are some differences in cost).
j A taxi will cost you $ 3 – $ 7 USD plus $ 0.45 USD per km (starts at 5 km)
Gasoline (1 liter) will cost you $ 0.85 – $ 1.05
Eating and drinking
Ukraine is an agricultural country with a lot of cooking traditions. Be sure, if you want, you will learn a lot of interesting and delicious recipes. Here, people rarely order pizza and fast food at home. Usually, they buy products at the market or in stores and cook them at home themselves. We encourage students to do the same, which is very economical and satisfying.
Locals often buy food from popular markets because it is very affordable, but we recommend that students do not do so right away. Unfortunately, you do not have enough experience residing in Ukraine, you can be fooled in the popular market.
